About Poa

Pulse of Africa (POA) – The Face and Voice of Africa, is a Pan-African media institution dedicated to telling authentic African stories through journalism, broadcasting, documentary production, current affairs programming, and multi-platform storytelling.

Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, POA was established to contribute to a more complete, accurate, and context-rich understanding of Africa by creating a platform where African voices, perspectives, and experiences are represented with depth, credibility, and purpose.

POA is where Africa tells its own story. Our lens is African—not borrowed. Our reporting, storytelling, and programming are shaped by the voices, realities, and experiences of the continent itself.

For decades, much of the world has encountered Africa through stories of conflict, poverty, and crisis, while its achievements, innovation, creativity, and resilience have often received far less attention. POA was created to help broaden that narrative, not by ignoring challenges, but by presenting a more complete, balanced, and authentic picture of Africa.

Africa cannot be defined by a single story. It is a continent of more than 1.5 billion people, thousands of cultures and languages, ancient civilizations, rapidly growing economies, scientific innovation, creative industries, and emerging opportunities.

Yet Africa is often represented through incomplete, fragmented, or oversimplified narratives.

POA exists to help reshape that understanding by:

Our Origins

POA was officially launched in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on October 7, 2025, following a call by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during the 35th African Union Summit in 2022 for a continental media institution capable of presenting Africa's realities through African perspectives.

Located in the diplomatic capital of Africa and home to the African Union, POA was established to contribute to greater balance in global narratives about Africa while strengthening continental dialogue and connecting African voices with audiences around the world.

Our Vision

To reshape global perceptions of Africa by becoming the most trusted Pan-African media institution for authentic African storytelling.

Our Mission

To inform, inspire, and connect Africa with the world by amplifying African voices and presenting authentic, balanced, and context-rich stories that challenge stereotypes and deepen understanding of the continent.

Our responsibility is not simply to tell stories about Africa, but to help build a more informed relationship between Africa and the world.

Africa cannot be reduced to a single narrative. It is a continent of civilizations, innovators, entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, cultures, and communities whose stories deserve to be told with accuracy, depth, and authenticity.

We do not tell a single African story. We tell Africa's many stories.
